Week Seven

Writer's picture: Jane ByrneJane Byrne

In week seven, we started the class by going over some of the student profile assignments we had submitted the week before.

After this Conor discussed the different shot sizes and their benefit for different types of images. Some of the shots discussed included, extreme close up (ECU), close up (CU), medium close up, (MCU), medium shot (MS), full shot, (FS), wide shot (WS), master shot and establishing shot.

We discussed when they should be appropriately used and the scenarios in which to use them.

We were then given our next assignment. Our third assignment is a 3 to 6 picture profile of a person with an interesting story. The submission is to include one formal portrait, one wide shot showing context, one medium close up showing activity or action and 250 word profile that would be suitable to be published in The Irish Times. The shots we learned about earlier in class would be of great benefit to us here.
