Week three: Exploring lightroom classic.

Writer's picture: Jane ByrneJane Byrne

This week brought more learning. At the start of the lesson we took some time to recap what we went over last week. This included the three pillars of photography; aperture, ISO and shutter speed. I appreciated that we went over these again because it increased my confidence and knowledge of the camera settings. I really enjoy learning the basics well because these are the skills I know i'll take from this module and have for life.

Conor once again showed us a variety of photos that demonstrated good knowledge of camera settings and what to look out for and include when taking our own photos.

The second portion of the class welcomed another workshop in Lightroom however this time it was Adobe lightroom classic. This version of lightroom is a bit more high-tech than the version we had previously been using. Conor showed us many new ways to enhance our images.

One of the most valuable tools I learned this week was how to include a caption and how to credit yourself within the photograph. Before the class I didn't realise you could instill a caption and accreditation within a photograph - I always thought it would have to go underneath the photo. This is incredibly important to me as a journalist because when I'm sending off images to newspapers I want to let the editor know exactly where the photo is, what is happening, who is in it etc. and I also want to protect and copyright my image. I found this very interesting.

We also learned how to edit images in further detail and focus the light, contrast and warmth in one particular section of an image if we wanted to.

This was a very welcomed class just before the submission of our 'Five shot story' as we had even more tools on hand to help us edit our images.

I am really excited to see what the rest of the module will bring.
